~( <br />POLICY 4.11, "ACQUIRED IMMUNE DEFICIENCY SYNDROME (AIDS)" <br />PACE 4 OF 8 <br />D. Should the inmate request that he/she be tested for HIV/AIDS, the contract <br />physician will afrange for the test to be conducted. <br />E. The laboratory results of any inmate tested for HIV/AIDS will be held strictly <br />confidential and wilt be filed and maintained in the inmate's confidential medical <br />record only. Any employee found to have revealed the medical status of any inmate <br />housed at the facility will be subject to disciplinary action. The only exception to this <br />will be in cases where another inmate or officer may have been exposed to an inmate's <br />blood or body fluid and it is felt that the exposure poses a threatlrisk of transmitting HIV <br />or' AIDS. In these cases, the inmate may be tested (see 5(c), above) and the contract <br />physician will be responsible for revealing the results of the test to the exposed person. <br />The exposed person will be instructed as to the confidentiality of the test result <br />information and will be provided the opportunity to be tested him herself for the <br />HIV/AIDS virus, <br />6. Housine of Inmates with HIV/AIDS: <br />A. Inmates who are HIV (+) and asymptomatic will not be segregated or transferred <br />from the facility solely because of their condition. However, the Jail Administrator, as <br />directed by the Sheriff, may make the determination to segregate or transfer an inmate <br />who is HIV(+) and asymptomatic for any of the following reasons: <br />1. To protect the inmate from other inmates (protective custody); <br />2. For engaging in violent, sexually assualtive, sexually active, or other high <br />risk behaviors within the facility; <br />3. Pending transfer to another facility (the inmate may be placed in <br />segregation); and/or, <br />4, Upon the recommendation of the contract physician, for the benefit of the <br />inmate's treatment, <br />B. Irunates who are symptomatic and have HIV or full blown AIDS may be placed on <br />medical segregation status upon the direct recommendation of the contract physician. <br />C. An inmate who is HIV (+) and has been recommended for transfer to another <br />facility may be placed on medical segregation status pending transfer to this facility. <br />
