POLICY 4.10, "SUICIDAL INMATES" ~ 5 <br />PA(sE30F3 <br />Procedures to be followed in the Event of an Actual Suicide.. <br />A. Should a detention officer discover a deceased inmate who has apparently <br />comaritted suicide, the procedures outlined in Change County Jail Policy 4,05, <br />"Emergency Medical Plan," will be immediately enacted. (Officer discovering inmate an <br />inmate (deceased) as stated means after EMS has pronounced the person to be deceased) <br />B. In addition to the vazious reports required to be completed whenever a medical <br />emergency exists (see Orange County Jail Policy 4.05, "Emergency Medical Plan), the <br />following reports and actions will also be required: <br />L If necessary, the Sheriff, will require an investigation <br />2, The Jail Administrator will submit Death of an Inmate Report to the Sheriff. <br />The .Jail Administrator will ensure that a copy of this report is forwarded to the Jail <br />and Detention Branch of the Department of Human Resources and to the Local <br />Health Director within five (5) days of the inmate's suicide. <br />C, The Sheriff will be responsible for notifying the inmate's next-of-kin regazding the <br />inmate's death upon confirmation of the death by North Carolina Medical Examiner's <br />Office. <br />Reviewed and Approved: 9~%~ ~'~~~~~~lil ~~ ~,~j~'~ <br />(Sheriff) l/ <br />Date: 'j""t"`~ <br />
