<br />POLICY 4.10, "SiTICIDAL INMATES" <br />PAGE20F3 <br />C Any inmate deemed to present a suicide threat will be placed on suicide status and <br />transferred to the Holding Cell adjacent to the Control Room so that he/she can be <br />continuous observed by.jail staff. Jail detention officers will be required to directly <br />observe inmates confined in the Holding Cell a minimum of every 15 minutes. All <br />observations shall be documented on the "Holding Cell Security Monitoring Sheep' (see <br />Attachment #2) to be located in the Control Room. <br />D. Inmates placed on suicide status and temporazily housed in the Holding Cell will <br />not be allowed to possess any items of personal property. The only items authorized such <br />inmates will be a county-issued jumpsuit and lace-less shoes. <br />E. The .Tail Administrator and/or Lieutenant will be responsible for advising all jail <br />detention officers that an inmate has been placed on suicide status so as to ensure that all <br />jail detention officers providing supervision for the inmate may watch for signs of any <br />potential problems. <br />F. The Jail Administrator will be responsible for contacting the Sheriff so that a <br />determination can be made as to the continued confinement of the inmate at the Orange <br />County Jail. The .Jail Admuristrator, as directed by the Sheriff, may: <br />1. Arrange for the inmate to be transferred to the North Carolina Department of <br />Corrections, Central Prison, in "safe-keeper" status; <br />2. Arrange for the irunate to be involuntarily committed to a Mental Health <br />Hospital or other mental health caze facility for treatment/care; <br />3. Continue to maintain the inmate on suicide status at the facility until such a time <br />that a physician can examine the inmate and make a determinations to his/her <br />condition and potential treatments or, <br />4. Arrange for the inmate (if a new admission) to be released from custody <br />through the Court. <br />G. An official Incident Report will be required to be completed anytime an inmate is <br />deemed to pose a threat of suicide. Either the Lieutenant or shift supervisor will he <br />responsible for completing this report and for providing a copy of the same to the Jail <br />Admuristrator and/or the Sheriff. A copy of the Incident Report will be filed in the <br />inmate's confinement record and the inmate's medical record.. <br />
