POLICY 4.09, "ADMINISTRATION AND CONTROL OF MEDICATIONS" <br />PAGE 8 OF 9 <br />The jail medicine administering officer shall initial or sign the Medical Drug Log <br />to indicate his/her identity. The inmate will sign the Medicine Received Form (see <br />Attachment #1) to verify their receiving of the medication. If the inmate refuses to <br />sign the Medicine Received Form, the medicine administration officer will make <br />notation of same and report the occurrence to the senior.jail detention officer. <br />8. Should an inmate refuse to take her/her medication, the officer <br />accompanying the designated officer shall also indicate this information on the <br />Medical Drug Log. (Note: this information is important if an irunate refuses <br />his/her medicine by your initialing the form with initials and date and time we will <br />be protected) <br />a. It shall be the duty and responsibility of the medical administering <br />officer to return the Medical Drug L,og to the Medical Office Room. Any <br />medication not taken by an inmate -shall be packaged, sealed and initialed <br />by both the medical administering oflcer and the witnessing detention <br />officer.. All refused prescription medicines wiIl be placed in a secure <br />locked drawer by the medical administration officer and the shift <br />supervrsor. <br />b. An incident report will be written stating what medicines were <br />placed in the medical room. At an appropriate time the shift supervisor and <br />the jail Lieutenant shall take the refused prescription drugs to the contracted <br />medical professional. The medical professional shall sign a green evidence <br />sheet verifying they have received the refused drugs. The green sheet and <br />incident report will be turned over to the lower office records clerk and <br />filed for future reference. <br />c. Destruction or disposing of any prescription drugs will be done by <br />the nurse practitioner and witnessed by the .Tail Lieutenant. Everything <br />destroyed or disposed of will be recorded and a report written and filed by <br />the Jail Lieutenant. This procedure shall not be violated.. <br />3 Handling of Medications Discovered During Admission: <br />A. Should an admitting detention officer discover prescriptive medications being <br />carried by a newly admitted inmate, the admitting detention officer will be required to <br />confiscate the medication from the inmate until such a time that the medication can be <br />verified... <br />B. Any prescriptive medication found will be turned over to the shift supervisor for <br />temporazy safekeeping.. <br />
