Transportation of any inmate to UNGChapel Hill Hospital will be done in <br />accordance with the procedures outlined in Orange County .Tail Policy 4..13, <br />"Transportation of Inmates for Medical Care." <br />F. Emergency mental health needs for an inmate(s) may azise after hours or when the <br />contracted medical professional and contracted Phys. Dr is not available.. The Supervisor <br />on duty shall make a decision to contact the Lieutenant, Major or Sheriff and obtain an <br />involuntary commitment order and transport the inmate for evaluation at UNC-Memorial <br />Hospital. (Note: when the contracted Nurse Practitioner and or Contract Phys. Doctor are <br />available they can make the decision.) <br />G. A copy of the completed "Prisoner Medical Report Form" will be filed and <br />maintained in the inmate's medical file. Under no circumstances will any "Prisoner <br />Medical Report Form" containing any diagnosis or recommendations/referrals for <br />treatment by any health caze worker be placed in the inmate's confinement record or be <br />made accessible to any jail detention officer. <br />2. Emergency Mental Health Care Services: <br />_ A. Jail detention officers will be instructed during Basic Jail Certification School of the <br />signs and symptoms that may be the resuldcause of an emergency mental health problem, <br />Should any officer detect any of the following signs/symptoms, he/she should <br />immediately contact the Control Room officer who shall immediately contact the on duty <br />supervisor: <br />1. Depression; <br />2, Disorientation; <br />3. Exaggerated mood swings; <br />4. Delusions and/or hallucinations; <br />5. Intense fear, panic or anxiety; <br />6. Wazning signs of suicide; and/or <br />7. Sleeping difficulties. <br />B. The Control Room Officer shall be responsible for contacting the on duty supervisor <br />and/or Lieutenant to provide assistance to the responding,jail detention officer. <br />C. The on duty supervisor and/or Lieutenant after evaluating the irunates need shall <br />contact the contract medical professional on-call and explain the situation/problem. <br />(Should the contracted medical professional on call not be available and the situation is <br />urgent the on duty supervisor may obtain a involuntary commitment and have the inmate <br />transported to LJNC-Chapel Hill Hospital for evaluation; this certainly will not be done <br />without the Jail Administrator, Major or Sheriff being notified. (This procedure can be <br />complicated especially if the inmate is awaiting trial for a serious crime. The end result <br />maybe that we have to obtain a safekeeping order and transport the inmate to Central <br />Prison for safekeeping.. ) <br />
