Margaret Lane <br />Hillsborough, North Carolina 27278 <br />POLICY #: 4.07 PAGE 1 OF 3 <br />POLICY TITLE: MENTAL HEALTH CARE DELIVERY SERVICES <br />DATE: TULY 1, 200.3 <br />RELATED N.C. <br />STANDARDS: .2403 (a) (8); ,3201 (b (S) <br />POLICY STATEMENT: In order to promote the mental well being and health of inmates <br />confined to the facility, the Orange County Jail Administrator and the Sheriff will arrange for <br />inmates in need of mental health care services to be referred to the facility contracted <br />Psychiatrist for needed treatmendcaze All inmate referrals to Mental Health must be made by <br />our contracted medical professional; however, ,jail detention officers shall report inmates who <br />appear to be in dire need and are suffering from mental health problems to their supervisor for <br />immediate referral possibly to UNC-Hospital as an involuntary commitment when our <br />contracted medical professional is not available to make the referral. <br />SPECIFIC PROCEDURES: <br />1. Routine Mental Health Care ServiceslTreaiment: <br />A. Mental health care services will be provided inmates in the same manner outlined <br />in Orange County .Tail Policy 4.03, "Medical Referrals and Complaints." Inmates will be <br />allowed to communicate their mental health caze requests to jail detention officers who <br />will be responsible for writing the inmate's complaint/request on a "Prisoner Medical <br />Report Form," (see Attachment #1), <br />B. All "Prisoner Medical Report Forms" will be required to be submitted to the on <br />duty shift supervisor or the Jail Administrator for a record to be made of the same in the <br />Medical Log (see Attachment #2) The contracted Medical professional shall ensure that <br />the form is filed and maintained in the inmates medical record and for the contracted <br />Psych Dr. to review. <br />C. Upon examination of the inmate by the contracted medical professional a <br />determination will be made as to whether the inmate is in need of the mental health care <br />services provided by our contracted Psyche Doctor. <br />D. Should the medical professional feel that an inmate is in need of mental health <br />care services, he/she will refer the inmate to the contracted Psych Doctor or if any <br />emergency exists contact the Jail Administrator and/or sheriff and request that the inmate <br />be transported to UNC-Hospital for evaluation and or treatment.. <br />
