STANDARDS: 4.06 DENTAL CARE JULY 1, 2003 .240.3 (a) (8); ..3201 a3 PAGE 1 OF 2 POLICY STATEMENT: In order to protect the general health and welfare of inmates confined to the Ckange County Jail, the facility will provide for the medical supervision of all inmates.. To this end, the Orange County Jail will arrange for dental care services to be provided by a licensed dentist when an inmate has a need for emergency dental care treatment/services. SPECIFIC PROCEDURES: 1. Dental care services shall be afforded inmates in need of emergency treatment/services -- by a licensed dentist contracted by Orange County to provide the same to inmates housed in the facility. 2. Dentat Gaze services will be limited to emergency fillings and dental extractions only. 3. Access to Dental Care Services: A. Should a detention officer detect or receive a dental complaint from an inmate that he/she is suffering from a dental ailment (e g., severe swelling of the facial azea or gums; broken or damaged teeth; severe pain, etc.), the detention officer will immediately contact the control room detention officer and notify him/her of the problem. B. The Control Room detention officer shall be responsible for contacting the on duty shift supervisor and/or Lieutenant. The shift supervisor and/or Lieutenant will be responsible for contacting the coritract dentist and explaining the inmates' symptoms so that a determination can be made as to whether the uunate will need to be transported to the dental office for treatment/caze. C Should a determination be made that the inmate requires transportation to the dentist's office or treatment, jail detention officers shall follow the procedures outlined in Orange County Jail Policy 4.13,"Transportation of Inmates for Medical Care," to carry out this process.
