DocuSign Envelope ID: 10F0B4DA-C8135-4AB3-9AFA-939AE0010B1S (HIBIT A
PROVIDER'S OUTSIDE AGENCY APPLICATION
• Encouraging career readiness through the exposure to skills and technology that
students would otherwise not have been able to access.
• Incorsoratin• the 'foals and values ex•ressed in the CHCCS E•uit Plan into our
curriculum and teaching style.
Teachers universally report these programs having a substantial impact on students, noting
increased engagement and excitement in English and Social Studies classes, as well as the sense
that these programs bring history to life for students, showing them that the Freedom Movement
affected their homes, communities, and people they know. We believe these programs are
essential to the curricula of CHCCS and OCSS.
f) Who is your target population of individuals to benefit from this program and how will they
be identified and connected with the program?
Our initiatives reach a wide range of beneficiaries across the county, as our demographic statistics
show. Our civil rights education workshops were created from over 200+ area oral histories,
primarily with African-American residents, and engage 30+ elder residents in their implementation
each year The workshops reach full grade levels of every partner school involved and have
already reached five school groups this year, three of which are new school partnerships, as well
as several unique organizations like Boomerang, Blue Ribbon, and the UNC Hospital School.
Linked with our goal of school expansion, we intend to deepen our partnership with the Orange
County School System to reach an increased number of students outside of town designations.
Our audio immersion program is available to high school youth throughout Orange County. This
year, we began seeing value in rebranding our Fusion Youth Radio afterschool program to an in-
school pilot program. We hope to offer this intensive workshop series to three ongoing partners
throughout the County in the coming year, as well as a summer audio immersion camp that will
target youth who have completed these workshop series. While the repertoire of skills gained and
programmatic goals remain the same, the ability to build and retain community and to practice
introspection and self-actualization increases. Our audio immersive programming has a track
record of reaching across barriers, not just in the group's composition but also in the selection of
show themes. Past audio-documentary pieces have focused on topics such as immigration
legislation, HB2 and LGBT rights, race in local schools, feminism, mental and physical health, and
democratic participation.
g) Describe the credentials of the program manager and other key staff.
Our Youth Leadership and Civil Rights Education Program will be carried out by the following:
Our Full-Time Program Coordinator of Youth Leadership & Education would have a
professional background in education and/or youth-based work, knowledge of NC
curriculum and standards, and receive informative training on the history of Northside, the
local Civil Rights history, and the oral history archive housed at the Jackson Center.
• Our Assistant Director of Youth Leadership & Education is a former participant in
Fusion Youth Radio and award-recipient of a national radio competition. He has extensive
history in beatmaking, audio production and editing, and workshop facilitation. Additionally,
he is a community member with deep connections to both our county schools and
Northside.
• Our Executive Director is a professor in the Department of Communication at UNC and a
former interim director of the Southern Oral History Program
• Our Administrative Associat has extensive workshop facilitation experience. She is also
a community member with deep roots and connections,
• Our Community Mentor Team is composed of lifetime residents of Northside and
community activists within the Civil Rights Movement in Chapel Hill. They are essentially
the history makers by which our curriculum is based.
PROGRAM INFORMATION 1/31/2017 10:50:57 AM
