Ms. Green, treasurer of the Chapel Hill Museum, gave a brief overview of the progress
and accomplishments of the museum over the past year and a half. A $35,000 Department
of Cultural Resources grant paid for renovations to the building, which were now almost
completed. The committee is now fund raising, and to date approximately $12,000 has
been received from individuals and $15,000 from local businesses to support the museum.
The museum board is now in the process of hiring an executive director. Ms. Green
stated that all was going well and a target date for the opening has not been scheduled.
The board complimented Ms. Green and the museum board on all the time and effort they
had invested in the project.
Ms. Green also distributed to board members and guests, the newly printed Revolutionary
War Tour brochure. Sheer and Associates designed the brochure. Ms. Cathleen Turner,
director of the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough, stated that Colonial Guides would be
offering guided tours of this trail on Fridays and Saturdays in the near future.
Michael Weil who was appointed to the Visitors Bureau Board, representing the Chamber
of Commerce, resigned from the board. Mr. Weil recently purchased a travel agency in
Cary and felt that he could no longer do an adequate job of representing the interests of
the Chapel Hill business community on this board. Mr. Pavao asked Ms. Green to contact
the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce to suggest a replacement for Mr. Weil.
ADJOURNMENT
With no further business to be discussed Mr. Carey made a motion that the meeting
adjourn. Ms. Skinner seconded the motion. With all members in favor of the motion the
meeting was adjourned at 8:45 a.m.
Minutes Drafted by: Minutes Accepted by:
Shelly A.
