MARKETING COMMITTEE
Ms. Margaret Skinner reported to the board that the marketing committee had a very
good "brain storming" meeting in reference to new ideas for the marketing plan. Mr. Joe
Blake distributed a draft of the marketing plan for board members to review. Mr. Blake
stated that the final draft with tourism data for the county and state would be sent to the
board in May. Blake also stated that if anyone had questions regarding the marketing plan
to contact him. The marketing plan will be put before the board in June for board
approval.
BUDGET AND FINANCE
Mr. Moses Carey, Jr., Treasurer, reported the overall budget was in good order. Ms.
Green noted the negative number in the occupancy revenue report was from the impact of
the occupancy tax loss from the Carolina Inn.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Ms. Green reported to the board that Sheer and Associates has received the advertising
contract through the biding process. The agency is working quickly and an initial draft of
a new logo for the bureau has been submitted. The Bureau has submitted a few ideas for
changes in the logo and a final draft should be forthcoming. Ms. Green stated the logo
would represent the Hillsborough, Chapel Hill and Carrboro area very well.
Sheer and Associates has suggested that one welcome sign be used for the interstate
highways and the secondary roads instead of two signs. After a brief discussion the board
was in agreement that the same sign for all highways was a good suggestion. Ms. Green
will call Mr. Bill Crowther, to apprise him of this. The agency will also be doing the
design and layout for the meeting planning guide as well as for the brochures, stationary,
and note cards.
A new visitors guide will be printed in the next fiscal year. Ms. Green asked the board
their opinion on advertisement in the new visitors guide explaining that the overall look of
the guide would not be "cheapened"by advertisement. The advertisement would not be
ads but rather an "enhancement" of the listing in the guide. She explained the advertising
would generate revenue to offset the cost of the 100,000 guides that will be printed. After
discussion it was a consensus by the board that it was a good concept. Ms. Green was
asked to bring a proposal on the "look" to the next board meeting.
Ms. Green advised that the group tour manual, designed for the motor coach tour
industry, was to be published in May by Sheer and Associates.
