ORANGE COUNTY <br /> ADVISORY BOARD ON AGING <br /> Minutes <br /> May 9, 2017 <br /> PRESENT: Mary Altpeter, Colin Austin, Peggy Cohn, Keith Cook, Winston Liao, Lorenzo Mejia, <br /> Yvonne Mendenhall, Donna Prather, Dick White <br /> EXCUSED: Heather Altman <br /> STAFF: Mary Fraser, Yvette Missri,Janice Tyler <br /> The meeting was called to order by Chair Peggy Cohn. The minutes of the April 11, 2017 <br /> meeting were approved following the motion made by Keith Cook and the second by Winston <br /> Liao. <br /> Director's Report <br /> Janice Tyler distributed volunteer appreciation gifts from the Board of County Commissioners <br /> (BOCC) to all present Board members. She announced that a proclamation designating May as <br /> Older Americans Month will be presented at the May 16 BOCC meeting. The Advisory Board's <br /> recommendations for membership appointments and reappointments will also be considered <br /> at that meeting. <br /> The Seymour Center will celebrate its 10th anniversary with an event on May 19. Project <br /> EngAGE graduate Lowell Goldsmith will be donating an Edwin White outdoor sculpture to the <br /> Department that will be placed at the entrance of Seymour Center. A concert to benefit the <br /> Music in My Mind Orange County program will be held on June 1 at the Cat's Cradle. <br /> Alicia Perley has been hired as the new Evening Facility Manager for the Seymour Center. <br /> Zhenzhen Yu resigned to accept a position in Beijing and Corina Riley retired April 30 after 30 <br /> years with the Department on Aging. Her Facility Manager position is being restructured to a <br /> Program Coordinator Assistant. <br /> Ms. Tyler distributed the June-August Senior Times. The font size has been increased to make it <br /> more readable and the pages have been reformatted. However, these improvements are <br /> resulted in a higher production cost. <br /> The Seymour Center has been nominated in the Helping Hand category for this year's Chapel <br /> Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce Excellence Awards. <br /> Old Business <br /> Ms. Tyler distributed the County Manager's funding recommendations for the FY17-18 <br /> Department on Aging budget. She summarized the items included such as assistive listening <br /> devices for both Senior Centers, chairs for the Wellness Program classroom, lease of a color <br /> copier for Passmore, and funds to offset credit card fees. The Human Services Functional <br /> Leadership Team will appear before the BOCC on May 16 to answer questions. A generator for <br /> the Passmore Center has been included in the Capital Investment Plan budget request. For the <br />
