ORANGE COUNTY <br /> ADVISORY BOARD ON AGING <br /> Minutes <br /> June 13, 2017 <br /> PRESENT: Heather Altman, Mary Altpeter, Colin Austin, Peggy Cohn, Winston Liao, Yvonne <br /> Mendenhall <br /> EXCUSED: Alex Castro, Keith Cook, Donna Prather, Vibeke Talley, Dick White <br /> STAFF: Mary Fraser, Kathie Kearns, Yvette Missri,Janice Tyler <br /> The meeting was called to order by Chair Peggy Cohn. Approval of the May 9 meeting was <br /> postponed due to lack of a quorum. Heather Altman updated the Board on the current status <br /> of the Carolina Villages organization. Mary Altpeter suggested that this topic be placed on the <br /> September agenda for further discussion. She also asked that such ideas be noted at the end of <br /> each month's minutes to assure follow-up. <br /> Directors Report <br /> Janice Tyler gave a summary of her recent MAP presentations made in Guilford County, at <br /> Lynchburg College and to the Chapel Hill Town Council. Discussion followed on tracking <br /> instances and value of such presentations. <br /> Yvette Missri reviewed the Commodity Supplemental Food Program recently made available in <br /> Orange County. The Department on Aging and Orange Congregations in Mission are the two <br /> distribution agencies enrolled to date. She summarized eligibility requirements for the 400-600 <br /> potential recipients and the items available in the first month's distribution. <br /> Ms. Tyler announced that the design for the Passmore Center renovations has been finalized <br /> and construction will begin in September. The Housing Expo held at the Seymour Center on <br /> May 20 had 200 people in attendance. <br /> Both Ms. Tyler and Ms. Missri attended the Economics of Aging Symposium recently held at the <br /> UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. Another session is being planned for October. <br /> The bilingual social work position is being re-posted due to lack of suitable applicants. Almost <br /> 40 applications have been referred from Human Resources for the position vacated by Corina <br /> Riley's retirement. Senior Care continues to recruit for a new Executive Director. Ms. Tyler <br /> concluded by announcing that Shenae McPherson has been hired as the permanent part-time <br /> Volunteer Connect 55+ Program Assistant. <br /> Old Business <br /> The Board of County Commissioners will review the Department's budget request for FY 17-18 <br /> at their meeting tonight. Adoption of the Orange County budget is scheduled for June 20. <br />
