5 <br /> Commissioner Rich asked if CHCCS has a plan to keep the parents informed about the <br /> building project at CHCCS. <br /> Todd LoFrese said information will be shared once the process is further along, likely <br /> starting in January or February 2018. He said the district will use multiple methods of <br /> communication: using social media, newsletters, Connect Ed, meeting with the PTA, etc. <br /> James Barret said to include parents at feeder schools as well. <br /> Commissioner Rich asked if the BOCC could be kept informed as well, as parents often <br /> approach Board members out and about in the County. <br /> OCS <br /> Pam Jones reviewed the Bond Projects update: <br /> o Orange High School Geothermal HVAC project <br /> Reece Noland and McElrath, Inc. has been retained to design the project <br /> • Test wells are in process to determine conductivity of soils <br /> • Multi-year project <br /> o Cedar Ridge High School Classroom Wing <br /> • Corley Redfoot Architects, designed the original school building and has been <br /> retained to also design this classroom addition. <br /> • Project design is on-going. <br /> • Occupancy anticipated for beginning of school year August 2020. <br /> o Acquisition of Eno River Academy Charter School <br /> o Other bond projects related to infrastructure replacement are reflected on the attached <br /> schedule in their agenda packet in the year in which commencement is expected. <br /> o Bond projects are aligned with planned bond sale cash flow requirements. <br /> 5. Review of the Use and Purpose of School Resource Officers <br /> Both School Systems have provided information regarding the use and purpose of having <br /> School Resource Officers in the schools. See supplemental pages 23-106 in the CHCCS <br /> information, and supplemental Attachments 3 and 4 in the OCS information. <br /> Todd LoFrese said OCS and CHCCS have a joint video, which was showed to the <br /> BOCC. <br /> CHCCS <br /> Todd LoFrese said CHCCS is proud of its SRO program, and reviewed the following <br /> information: <br /> During the budget process a question was raised by a Commissioner on whether the separate <br /> School Resource Officer (SRO) and Nurse funding should be included in the ADM funding, to <br /> allow districts more flexibility to pay for other identified needs, instead of using the money for <br /> SROs. Ultimately the BOCC approved keeping the funding structure the same, but committed <br /> to an additional discussion at the joint boards meeting. District administration is in strong <br /> support of SRO program and supports the current funding structure. We have discussed our <br /> program at Board meetings in May and September 2017, shared a variety of resources <br /> including our professional development efforts, school incident data, and information about our <br /> first SRO program summit.
