The executive director also delivers the majority of exhibit tours and develops special events to support exhibits. The museum coordinator works on social media and printed publicity to support exhibits and related events, and also helps deliver visitor tours. • Describe the specific period over which the activities will be carried out and include an implementation timeline. • OCHM maintains a perpetual calendar of permanent and temporary exhibits throughout the year. From July 1, 2017-June 30, 2018, we will be engaged in displaying permanent exhibitions and developing temporary exhibitions for our community of museum visitors. • Why is funding this program a good investment for the community? How does funding this program add value to the community? (250 words OR LESS) • Investing in OCHM assures that there will be a place for representation of accurate, inclusive, historical interpretation accessible and available to all OC citizens. It assures there will be a place where all who wish to take advantage of the rich learning opportunities museums offer can do so. OCHM is a space where visitors are offered the foundation of good citizenship in our democratic society: a working knowledge of history and its impact on contemporary issues, one that not only broadens our knowledge, but expands our world view in the process. Paleontologist and passionate museum advocate Stephen Jay Gould said this: `Nothing is more dangerous than a dogmatic worldview—nothing more constraining, more blinding to innovation, more destructive of openness in novelty.' A vital OCHM will enlighten, entertain, and open the imagination of our visitors and our community, if we continue to receive the funding we seek. • Describe what would happen if requested funding is not awarded at all or if a reduced allocation is recommended. OCHM staff would have to make difficult decisions about which exhibits to develop, and which to abandon, if we do not receive the full funding we request. The opportunity to develop some exhibitions for the purpose of engaging, educating, and delighting visitors with narratives illustrated and enriched by artifacts from our collections would be lost. • Include any other pertinent information.
