How does
funding this program add value to the community? (250 words OR LESS)
Students who experience OCHM outreach through classroom visits and field trips to
the museum aren't just learning about history.
• They learn about other cultures in a way that fosters understanding and, along
with it, respect and tolerance for those different from ourselves;
• They experience the joy of learning through observation, inquiry, and the
exercise of imagination;
• They learn that fallible humans interpret and record history, thus making it an
evolving narrative requiring more of learners than passive acceptance.
•
In this process they learn about themselves, their place in the world, and the
importance of their own story. They recognize the importance of connecting with the
stories of others—which fosters in them a beginning awareness of the importance of
community in the life of its members.
• Describe what would happen if requested funding is not awarded at all or if a
reduced allocation is recommended.
If we do not receive requested funding or receive a reduced allocation of funding, OCHM
would be forced to lessen the amount of outreach we do to the community, and to assess
which programs to cut in order to continue critical heritage education programming.
• Include any other pertinent information.
PROGRAM INFORMATION 2/9/2017 1:10:02 PM I ' ° I / If
