DocuSign Envelope ID:80528E57-64B2-4BCE-A558-776533408604 XHI BIT A
PROVIDER'S OUTSIDE AGENCY APPLICATION
• Describe the community need or problem to be addressed in relation to the Chapel
Hill Human Services Needs Assessment, Orange County BOCC Goals and
Priorities, Town of Chapel Hill Council Goals, Carrboro goals, or other community
priorities (i.e. Council/Board Goals). Reference local data (using the provided links,
i.e. Chapel Hill Human Services Needs Assessment) to support the need for this
program.
In published goals/priorities reports, OCBOC and town of Chapel Hill have included
the goal of providing educational opportunities and recreational activities for
children and families. The town of Chapel Hill, I particular, indicates the lack of
sufficient low-cost or free activities for children, youth, and LEP students.
All of OCHM's exhibits and events are consciously designed to be inclusive of all
members of the diverse OC community we serve. Attendance at OCHM for field
trips, special tours for students, family workshops and exhibits, and participation at
Fairview Art/park programs are available at no cost to participants. Traveling Trunk
program fees have a price scale ($10 for a two week rental) intended to be
accessible to all community groups.
Perhaps most important in meeting town/county priorities is the role our museum
can play in fostering a desire in students to become actively engaged in their
community. The OC Board of Commissioners, in particular, has included the goal
of full civic participation in our community in their goals/priorities for the future.
Here's what Christopher T. Gates, president of PACE (Philanthropy for Active Civil
Engagement) has to say about how museums play a role in fostering and
sustaining civic participation:
By providing the means to preserve memory, sustain culture, and create identity,
museums help equip us to understand each other and ourselves. And it is this
understanding that animates our efforts to strengthen democracy, promote civic
engagement, and build community.
• Who is your target population of individuals to benefit from this program and how
will they be identified and connected with the program?
Heritage education targets K-12 students. They are reached via correspondence
and social media directed to educators.
Traveling Trunk program users self-identify as interested learners. They come
primarily from church and home school groups, and community youth organizations.
Special events participants are reached through social media, word of mouth and
printed and distributed advertising. They are identified and connected through their
interest in community resources, specifically cultural activities for families.
• Describe the credentials of the program manager and other key staff. (Ex. Identify
Program Manager and credentials, describe training provided to volunteers, etc.)
Resume for the Executive Director (project manager) and Museum Coordinator are
attached.
Museum volunteers prepare materials for hands-on activities, but do not participate
in delivery of workshops or lesson plans.
PROGRAM INFORMATION 2/9/2017 1:10:02 PM IP' ° t 6 e If 3
