10 <br /> 1 Dr. Todd Wirt said last year in OCS, lacrosse was the sport with the most concussions. <br /> 2 He said OCS partnered with the UNC study over a year ago, and has helmets from them. He <br /> 3 said some of the helmets have probes in them to track data. <br /> 4 Commissioner Rich said this could be another follow up item. <br /> 5 Commissioner Burroughs said there was an argument a while back that some kids <br /> 6 attend school in order play football, and may stop attending if football is taken away. <br /> 7 Dr. Todd Wirt said OCS has not had a discussion about dissolving football. He said <br /> 8 there is much more training for high school football coaches now than years ago. <br /> 9 Dr. Pamela Baldwin said CHCCS has not had in depth discussions, except to the extent <br /> 10 of what is occurring naturally. She said she has spoken with coaches about the connection that <br /> 11 sports can create with students who may not otherwise be excited about school. <br /> 12 Commissioner McKee said there are a lot of kids for whom sports gives an extra push to <br /> 13 do better in school. <br /> 14 James Barrett recognized Commissioner Price and other school board members that <br /> 15 attended the Pre-K conference. <br /> 16 <br /> 17 8. Closed Session <br /> 18 <br /> 19 A motion was made by Commissioner Burroughs, seconded by Commissioner McKee <br /> 20 seconded by to go into closed session at 8:51 p.m. for the purpose below: <br /> 21 <br /> 22 "Pursuant to G.S. § 143-318.11(a)(3) "to consult with an attorney retained by the Board in order <br /> 23 to preserve the attorney-client privilege between the attorney and the Board." <br /> 24 <br /> 25 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 26 <br /> 27 RECONVENE INTO REGULAR SESSION <br /> 28 <br /> 29 A motion was made by Commissioner Price, seconded by Commissioner McKee to go <br /> 30 into regular session at 10:10 p.m. <br /> 31 <br /> 32 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 33 <br /> 34 ADJOURNMENT <br /> 35 <br /> 36 A motion was made by Commissioner Price, seconded by Commissioner McKee to <br /> 37 adjourn the meeting at 10:10 p.m. <br /> 38 <br /> 39 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 40 <br /> 41 Penny Rich, Vice Chair <br /> 42 <br /> 43 <br /> 44 Donna Baker <br /> 45 Clerk to the Board <br /> 46 <br /> 47 <br /> 48 <br /> 49 <br />
