Proclamation of September 2017 as Preparedness Month (Item 8-h MOVED FROM <br /> 22 CONSENT AGENDA) <br /> 23 The Board considered approving a proclamation recognizing September 2017 as <br /> 24 "Preparedness Month" in Orange County and authorizing the Chair to sign. <br /> 25 Kirby Saunders, Emergency Management Coordinator, presented this item: <br /> 26 <br /> 27 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 28 PREPAREDNESS MONTH 2017 <br /> 29 PROCLAMATION <br /> 30 <br /> 31 WHEREAS, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has designated September as <br /> 32 National Preparedness Month across the United States; and <br /> 33 <br /> 34 WHEREAS, National Preparedness Month is an opportunity to raise awareness on the <br /> 35 importance of emergency preparedness and to encourage all Americans to better prepare their <br /> 36 homes and communities for all hazards, and <br /> 37 <br /> 38 WHEREAS, the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Ready Campaign, Citizen Corps, <br /> 39 and other federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, private, and volunteer agencies are working to <br /> 40 increase public activities in preparing for emergencies and to educate individuals on how to <br /> 41 take action; and <br /> 42 <br /> 43 WHEREAS, emergency preparedness is the responsibility of every Orange County resident, <br /> 44 and all residents are urged to make preparedness a priority and work together, as a team, to <br /> 45 ensure that individuals, families, and communities are prepared for disasters and emergencies <br /> 46 of any type; and <br /> 47 <br /> 48 WHEREAS, all residents of Orange County are encouraged to participate in citizen <br /> 49 preparedness activities and asked to visit the websites of the Ready campaign at Ready.gov or <br /> 50 Listo.gov (in Spanish) and become more prepared; <br />
