~ac~w~~ <br />53 <br />List of MAP Housing Issues to Consider for 2006-10 <br />March 23, 2006 <br />Drawing from the MAP Accomplishments and unmet Objectives from 2000-OS (see attached), <br />the following is a list of Housing Issues to consider for 2006-10 that are not in any priority order. <br />Also, there is space to write down additional issues, <br />1. Need to expansion of support services for 55+ Retirement Community in order for older <br />adults to age in place, (Example-#53 DOA- Manley Estates agreement)-,#59, #64 <br />2. Lack of senior consumer education on the need to select and buy "Aging in Place" (AiP) <br />homes. #55 <br />3. Need for a clear strategy to increase the number of available and affordable housing units <br />designed built for the needs of older persons, #56 <br />4, Lack of a HUD 202 Senior Housing project (low income) for central/northern Orange <br />County. (No project exists in northern Orange) <br />5. Lack of incentives for architects and builders to construct homes that allow for easy <br />retrofitting for disabflities and "Aging in Place". #54 <br />6. Need for tax relief for older adults who over time have difficulty paying their property tax on <br />their home. (Example- tax burden in Chapel HilUCarrboro who pay county tax plus a special <br />district school tax even though they don't have children in the system) #60, #63 <br />7. Need to find reliable/honest service providers for home repairs/renovations and maintenance. <br />-#61 <br />8. Need for a more walkable community and access to public transportation. <br />9. Need to assist older persons to age in their home with housekeeping, retrofit home, outside <br />repair, yard work, etc., especially those with low incomes. #62 <br />10. _ __ <br />11. <br />
