~,5 <br />Objective #68: Expand respite programs in nursing homes and assisted living facilities to <br />include a respite bed reservation service, (Goal III-A) <br />Accomplishment: National Family Caregiver Program has, funded some respite. for <br />seniors in institutions.. Although a reservation service has not been developea; <br />facilities have been open to short-term stays funded by OCDoA respite program. <br />Objective #69: Provide a new group respite program tluough the Orange County <br />senior centers. (Goal III-A) <br />Accomplishment: A group respite program was done using National Family Caregiver <br />Support Program funds at the Northside Senior Center in 2002-03. The program was <br />discontinued when the Central Orange Adult Day Health Center in Hillsborough was <br />established in 2003, <br />Accomplishments -Adult Day Health/Social Service <br />Objective #70: Research the need for ati adult day program (social and health model) and <br />design a program based on the results of the research. (Goal III-A) <br />Accomplishment: Agraduate student and Aging Director collected demographic information <br />and surveyed agencies in determining the need.for a adult day service in 2007.02, <br />Objective #71: Develop a funding plan for the provision of adult day services for <br />central/northern Orange. (Goal III-A) <br />Accomplishment: Based on research, a graduate student and Aging Director, designed a <br />combination adult day HealtWSocial Model. for Central Orange and prepared funding plan <br />for the Aging Board and BOCC approval in Spring 2003.. <br />Objecfive #72: Implement an adult day (social & health) program through Orange County <br />Eldercare Services and the Orange County Dept. of Social Services. (Goal III-A) <br />Accomplishment: With the BOCC approval, $50, 000 was set aside in the Department on <br />Aging's budget to implement adult day care with Carol Woods and Friends of the Senior <br />Center~nancial support in July, 2002.. Joint space with the Central Orange Senior Center at <br />the Meadowlands was renovated and final staff arrangements were completed and began <br />operating in March 2003, In July, 2004, the Central Orange Adult Day Health Center was <br />transferred from the Dep.. on Aging to Senior Care of Orange County, Ina, a new non profit <br />senior agency that, focuses on the issues of frail and disabled older adults in Orange County. <br />(New objective for FY 2003: Implement and operate adult day (social health) program by <br />new non-profit agency,) <br />Accomplishments -Support for Caregivers <br />Objective #73: Offer annually, amulti-cultural education program on abuse, neglect and <br />exploitation. (program audience: county residents, caregivers, Adult Protective Services, and <br />long-term caze service providers) (Goal III-A) <br />Accomplishment: A program was presented by the Coalition Against Elder Mistreatment <br />and the Chapel Hill Police Department in December 2002. for police,.fire, and EMS <br />personnel. <br />16 <br />
