3a <br />Comment: Not done due to lack of staff resources. However, OC Department on Aging <br />Eldercare staff informs and refers clients to Department of Social Services. <br />GOAL II-B: To ensure an adequate supply of affordable, safe, and suitable <br />housing exists for older residents in Orange County. <br />Accomplishments -Housing Services <br />Objective # 52: Complete an assessment of housing needs, quantities, and amenities, for <br />older persons in Orange County for the years 2001.2020. (Goal II-B) <br />Accomplishment: A UNC Social Work Student working with volunteers prepared a <br />housing assessment survey. Data collected and tabulated in 2005. A report will be prepared <br />Dept. on Aging staff in 2006 on the survey results. <br />Objective #53: Assist the HUD 202 Housing for the Elderly Project (Manley Estates) in the <br />provision of support services, and study contracting provision of services such as case <br />management or service coordination. (Goal II-B) <br />Accomplishment: Since 2002, OC DOA Eldercare division has provided First Baptist- <br />Manley Estates with on-site service coordination through contract staff for 10 hours per <br />week. Supplying staff through the OCDoA makes service coordination smooth and <br />encourages resident contact with the agency when the part-time coordinator is not present.. <br />Objective #55: Educate cons~uners on need to select and buy "Aging in Place"(AiP) homes. <br />(Goal II-B) <br />Accomplishment: In May, 2005, a large, forum was held on "Senior Choices: Housing <br />Options" with over 175 persons in attendance along with community agencies, While the <br />forum focused on all ,types of housing from independent Ziving to nursing horne care, <br />selecting and buying a AiP home was discussed. More time and staff resources is needed for <br />this objective. <br />Objective #56: Formulate a strategy to increase the number of available and affordable <br />housing units designed and built to meet the needs of older persons, by a level commensurate <br />with the predicted growth rate (include public and private housing needs). (Goal II-B) <br />Accomplishment: The Orange County Affordable Housing Advisory Board includes <br />consideration and discussion of the housing needs of special populations including the <br />elderly. <br />Objective #58: Reduce the number of Orange County housing units without adequate <br />heating. (GoaIII-B) <br />Comment: Housing units without adequate heating facilities are addressed through the <br />C.ounty's Urgent Repair and C_.omprehensive Housing Rehabilitation Program. <br />iJnmet Objectives -- Housing Services <br />Objective #54: Develop incentives for architects and builders to build houses that allow for <br />easy retrofitting later for "Aging in Place" or disability modifications. (Goal II-B) <br />Comment: Lack of staff time and resources.. <br />13 <br />
