SeniorNet classes at the Chapel Hill Senior Center have <br />been offered on Internet access, <br />Objective #9: Perform an assessment of the community awareness campaign, evaluating the <br />effectiveness of various elements and recommend changes.(Goal I-A) <br />Comment: Lack of staff time and resources. <br />Accomplishments -Facility Access <br />ObiecHve #10: In partnership with Friends of the Senior Center for Central Orange, and the <br />Town of Hillsborough, support the establishment of a small, multi-purpose drop-in Senior <br />Center site serving Central Orange County for the yeaz 2001 until construction of a large <br />facility. (Front door parking with easy access) (Goal I-A) <br />Accomplishment: Orange County rented and renovated space at the Meadowlands in <br />September 2001.. Contract for .space began September 2001 and ends ,June 2006. Opening <br />Date of Senior Center was January Z9, 2002, <br />Objective #11: Submit a funding proposal for the construction of the new Southern and Central <br />Orange multi-purpose Senior Centers, Est, cost: $5 Million (based on 125 sq. ft,) (Goal I•-A) <br />Accomplishment: Consh•uction of two new senior centers was place on the county bond in <br />May 2001 and voters passed a successful $4 million senior center bond in Nov, 100E <br />Objective #12: Re-establish a,joint study commission with LINO, Friends, Towns of <br />Carrboro and Chapel Hil] to plan for a new 25,000 sq.ft. Southern Orange Multi- purpose <br />Senior Center operational by June 2006. (Goal I-A) <br />Acccomplishment: The Southern Orange Senior Center Design Committee was formed in <br />May, 2004 by BOCC and the architect hired in August, 2004.. Committee provided input and <br />approved final construction in spring, 200.5. The projected completion date was July, 2006 <br />for• the new senior center, but likely be in December, 2006. <br />Objective #13: Establish a planning committee (including Friends, Town of Hillsborough) <br />to determine the shape, and scope of a new 12,000-15,000 sq. ft. multi- purpose Senior <br />Center for Central Orange be operational by June 2006. (Goal I-A) <br />Accomplishment: Orange County purchased the Sportsplex in Hillsborough in December, <br />200.5 which will be the site. for consh•uction of the Central Orange Senior Center. A center <br />design committee was appointed, and will meet in 2006 in order, for the county to construct a <br />new center by late 2006 or early 2007, <br />Unmet Facility Access Objectives <br />Objective #14: Perform a community survey that will assess the effectiveness of senior <br />centers and satellite outreach programs in meeting the needs of older persons in Orange <br />County. (GoalI-A) <br />Comment: Graduate Student implemented community survey in Summer/Fall, 2001. Survey <br />results were not completed in to a report. <br />
