is <br />ORANGE COUNTY MASTER AGING PLAN UPDATE: 2006-10 <br />M.A.P. STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING #.3 <br />MARCH 2.3, 2006 <br />MINUTES <br />The M.A.P.. Steering Committee held a meeting on March 23, 2006 at the Southern Human <br />Services Center on Homestead Road in Chapel Hill at 10:00 a.m. <br />PRESENT: The list of those present is attached to these minutes. The list includes members, <br />staff and visitors. <br />MEETING OBJECTIVE: Complete identifying and prioritizing issues for 2006-10 <br />I. Welcome and Introductions <br />Florence Soltys welcomed everyone to the meeting. Everyone gave their name and their <br />occupation/reason for serving an this group. <br />A. Recognition of Guests <br />.Terry Passmore noted that Cazol Gunther-Mole is a member of the Moderately Impaired <br />Committee and is on the agenda to speak about senior friendly issues. <br />B. Demographic and Membership Information (handout) <br />Jerry Passmore said that some members have already received some of the demographic <br />information on persons 65 years of age and older living alone, persons 60 years of age and older by race <br />and population 65 years and older for whom poverty status is deterniined. He has extra copies for those <br />who did not receive these GIS maps. <br />C. Approve Minutes -Meeting <br />The minutes for the meeting held on February 2, 2006 were approved as presented with a <br />motion made by Amy Gorely, seconded by Mariah McPherson and a unanimous vote. <br />D. Other Items <br />NONE <br />2. Presentation of Subcommittees' Issues and Priorities <br />A. Well-Fit Functional Group: Priority Issues -Myra Austin <br />Myra Austin called attention to the two attaclunents in the agenda -the minutes from the <br />Well-Fit Subconm~ittee Meeting dated March 7, 2006 and the list of MAP Transportation Issues which <br />are attached to the official copy of these minutes for reference. <br />Myra Austin said that the minutes indicate that they tallced at length about senior fiiendly <br />comrnunities. We started with what we are most proud of in Orange County in our senior friendly <br />conununities and she read those items. We tallced a lot about transportation -both Chapel Hill and OPT. <br />she said that they are proud that we have both of these available for the seniors. They are also proud of <br />the Meals on Wheels and Congregate Meal sites. They have a few HUD 202 housing in the County and <br />aze proud of the offerings at the senior centers in Orange County. Myra Austin continued listing those <br />items in the attaclunent. These included faith community support, Senior Times, spirit of volunteerism, <br />beginning of relationships with the University, Extension and Community Associations and pool <br />facilities. <br />Second, they looked at what improvements are needed to be a more Senior Friendly <br />Community, These included access to preventative and primary health care for Northern Orange as well <br />Page 1 of 8 <br />
