V~h :dinutes of the Hoard of Co+mty Commissioners <br />Monday, October 3, 1955• <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met on Monday, October 3, 1955, <br />at ten o'clock a.m. Sn the commissioner's rooa. Members present Chairman <br />R. J, t. Hobbs, Commis sinners Edwin Lanier, Dwi aht Ray end Henry 'Nalke r. <br />Giembers absent Co:nmiss loner SSm L. Efland, <br />Minutes of the two meetings held on September 6th and 19th were read ~,~ <br />by the clerk and apP roved by the Hoard, i <br />A road petition was submitted by a commit tee from Palmer's Grove <br />Community, IIoon mot Son of Corwissioner Lanier, ssconded by Commis Sonar <br />Yfalk er, and unanimously passed St was ordered that said petition be passed <br />on to the Highway Commis sion and that said Commission be urged to give this <br />road their immed late attention. <br />E. G, Gfarrit t, E. A. Cameron and 7!. T, Hobbs were appoint ed to the <br />Greater Chapel x111 Fire District Commission. Upon motion of Commissioner <br />Lania r, seconded by Commissioner Hay, and ssnaniaously passed 1t mss ordered <br />that Mr. Cameron call a meeting of the Commission for the purpose of <br />organizing the ?irst District. <br />These members are first to take the oath of office before Mr. Lynch, <br />Clerk of Court, and then proceed with the orgnnizati on of said Fire <br />District Commission. Tha Clark was asked to write these men of their <br />appointment to said sire District Commis slop and inform them about the <br />taking of said oath. <br />The Veterans Service Officer's repo rt was given, <br />A report from the Commissioners appointed to inspect the property ,of Lora <br />Wynn Dodson was given. Said property which contains 25 acres was valued at <br />wf}0.00 en acrd making a value df $`1,000.00. Orange County holds a. lien <br />age lost said property in the amount of {~1, 360.00, Upon motion of Commissioner <br />Rsy, aec and ed by ^ommissioner Walker, and unanimously ne ss ed, it {vas ordered <br />that the lien of u1,360. 00 must first be sstSsfied and that anyone desiring <br />'.. to ourchase said nrope rty would have to pay said lien in full, <br />It eras announced that the Stste Highway Commis sloe would meet on <br />October 12th in Graham, N. C, <br />Lester Carver, appeared on behalf of a road petl tion which he had ' <br /> <br />s ubmitt ad to the Board seversl months ago. tdr, Carver was told that the ~ <br />~ <br />Board had not made a road insn action sinco his petition was prasen tad but <br />tY.at slid petition would be given co ns ideratlon in due time. <br />Reno its about the activity in their offices {vere given by Clerk of <br />Court, Edwin Lynch, and Sherriff, Od e11 Clayton. <br />Don Idathes ton, Acting Chairman of the Industrial and Agricultural <br />Commission, Snformed the Hoard that the Commission would hold ita first <br />meeting on 4'!ed „ September nth, in the Coma is si ~~er's room. <br />The Grand Jury report was read by Chairman Hobbs. <br />iV!rs. Parker, Buo t, of l'lelfare, prase ^t ed a blind aid grant for <br />Elizabeth Diggs King which was unanimously accepted. <br />Mrs. Nora Brewer aopeared on behalf of a road petition and wag told that <br />th ern {vas nothing the Board could do at tho ores ant tLne about her request. <br />'.ir, Pfni te, representing °filte's r^urniturs Comps ny of PF.ebane, appeared <br />and requested that the Board inspect the build Sngs of~the i4hlte Furniture <br />Comoa ng which are located in Hillsboro and to make some adf us tment about <br />the tax value which is now affixed on said buildincs. No action was <br />taken on this matter. <br />Bids from Ae rring-Canners Motors and Ray-O'Neal !Motors were submitted <br />~or the truck the county plans to buy for the Dog ;'larder.. No action was taken <br />on this matter. <br />Donald Hayman, from the Institute of Government, outlined nett of the <br />program now being considered by the Eoard for position classification and <br />compensation plans. <br />The Chapel Hill School Hoard and the County Board of ffducat ion nppea red j 1 <br />nr.3 requested add Stional financial aid for tho school program. Each Board <br />was requested to make a study of their needs and to Present an Stemlzed list <br />of sa:na to the Board of County Commissioner at a later melting. <br />J. T. McBrthur of Durham requested that the tax rate or valuation be <br />lowered on the "Day Camn Property" which is now under constkuc tion, Mr. M11cA rth r <br />was requested to appear before the Board of Equalization and Revo iw when it <br />meets next idarch, <br />
