AGENCY INFORMATION (Be Very Brief and Concise) Please provide the following information about your agency (2 pages OR LESS): a) Years in Operation, Date of Incorporation (Month/Year): 12/8/1981 b) Agency's Purpose/Mission (no more than a few sentences): Volunteers for Youth (VFY) provides services to Orange County youth to integrate them into the community in ways that help them make responsible choices and recognize that they have a stake in their future. Formed in 1981 by professionals in our community who worked with court-involved youth, VFY is the only Orange County nonprofit agency dedicated to serving youth who have broken laws or who are at-risk of doing so. VFY seeks to bridge the gap between disconnected youth and the community through mentoring, community service, and teen court programs. c) Types of Services the Agency Provides (bullet format): • Mentoring — The mentoring program develops positive relationships between high need children and adolescents and caring adults through one-on-one friendships and weekly groups. • Community service and restitution - The community service and restitution program provides community service opportunities throughout Orange County for young people who have been adjudicated delinquent. • Teen court - The teen court program is an alternative court program for young people who have committed minor offenses and are referred from law enforcement, juvenile services, or the schools. d) Agency's History with Providing These Services: Volunteers for Youth operates Orange County's longest running mentoring program. Susan Worley has coordinated the program for more than 28 years. VFY began operating the juvenile community service program in 1992 at the request of the local division of juvenile services and is the only organization to have run the program in Orange County. Scott Dreyer and Alex Lowrie, the two coordinators, have been with VFY for 15 years and one year respectively. VFY has run the teen court program in Orange County for 14 years. Kate Giduz has coordinated it for more than three years. e) Other Pertinent Agency Information (Ex. Has the agency experienced any major changes in the past year?
