AGENCY INFORMATION (Be Very Brief and Concise) <br /> Please provide the following information about your agency (2 pages OR LESS): <br /> a) Years in Operation, Date of Incorporation (Month/Year): 12/8/1981 <br /> b) Agency's Purpose/Mission (no more than a few sentences): <br /> Volunteers for Youth (VFY) provides services to Orange County youth to integrate <br /> them into the community in ways that help them make responsible choices and <br /> recognize that they have a stake in their future. Formed in 1981 by professionals in <br /> our community who worked with court-involved youth, VFY is the only Orange <br /> County nonprofit agency dedicated to serving youth who have broken laws or who <br /> are at-risk of doing so. VFY seeks to bridge the gap between disconnected youth <br /> and the community through mentoring, community service, and teen court programs. <br /> c) Types of Services the Agency Provides (bullet format): <br /> • Mentoring — The mentoring program develops positive relationships between <br /> high need children and adolescents and caring adults through one-on-one <br /> friendships and weekly groups. <br /> • Community service and restitution - The community service and restitution <br /> program provides community service opportunities throughout Orange County <br /> for young people who have been adjudicated delinquent. <br /> • Teen court - The teen court program is an alternative court program for <br /> young people who have committed minor offenses and are referred from law <br /> enforcement, juvenile services, or the schools. <br /> d) Agency's History with Providing These Services: <br /> Volunteers for Youth operates Orange County's longest running mentoring program. <br /> Susan Worley has coordinated the program for more than 28 years. VFY began <br /> operating the juvenile community service program in 1992 at the request of the local <br /> division of juvenile services and is the only organization to have run the program in <br /> Orange County. Scott Dreyer and Alex Lowrie, the two coordinators, have been with <br /> VFY for 15 years and one year respectively. VFY has run the teen court program in <br /> Orange County for 14 years. Kate Giduz has coordinated it for more than three <br /> years. <br /> e) Other Pertinent Agency Information (Ex. Has the agency experienced any major changes <br /> in the past year?
