504 plans because we do not have a district-wide database of students with 504 plans. The risk ratio indicates
the likelihood of a demographic group receiving an ODR relative to the likelihood for a comparison group
(White students). Risk ratios are used to determine over or underrepresentation:
• Risk Ratio = 1.0 is indicative of equal risk
• Risk Ratio > 1.0 is indicative of overrepresentation
• Risk Ratio < 1.0 is indicative of underrepresentation
Below is a summary of decreases in ODRs for African American and Latino students (the two demographics
identified as target areas during the fall data presentation) and for White students (the identified comparison
group):
• African American Students
o Elementary—25% decrease
o Middle— 12%increase
o High—39% decrease
• Latino Students
o Elementary—47%increase
o Middle—29% decrease
o High—43% decrease
• White Students
o Elementary—6% decrease
o Middle— 13% decrease
o High—50% decrease
Although high school dramatically decreased the number of African American students with at least one ODR,
the significant increases in risk ratio is directly related the disproportionate decreases between African
American and White students.
Table 7 shows the top three problem behaviors by level identified in the 2015-2016 first semester data and
compares it to fee current year. All three levels show significant decreases in at least one of the identified
problem behaviors and middle and high schools were able to eliminate one of the top problem behaviors from
the list.
24 2 of 6
