• Randolph • Vance <br /> • Tyrrell • Washington <br /> Requires that teacher assistants receiving a tuition reimbursement are to continue receiving <br /> salary/benefits while doing student teaching in the LEA (was permissive). <br /> Requires the local boards that are newly participating in the pilot to report to the Joint Education <br /> Legislative Oversight Committee by September 1, 2018. <br /> Section 7.22 Cooperative Innovative High School Funding Changes <br /> Reduces the annual state appropriation of$316,646 per school provided to most Cooperative <br /> Innovative High Schools to the following amounts based on their economic development tier: <br /> • Tier I= $275,000 (the Northeast Regional School of Biotechnology and Agriscience will <br /> receive $310,000 and a virtual CIHS will receive $200,000) <br /> • Tier II= $200,000 <br /> • Tier III= $180,000 ($20,000 nonrecurring provided in FY 2017-18) <br /> Requires a study of the costs and outcomes of students in the Career and College Promise <br /> Program, which includes CIHS, and a report of this information submitted to various legislative <br /> committees. <br /> G.S. 115D-5(x). <br /> Section 7.23 Preparing Future Workforce in Coding and Mobile App Development Grant <br /> Program <br /> Directs DPI to establish the Coding and Mobile Application Grant Program to fund computer <br /> science, coding, and mobile application development curricular programs for middle school and <br /> high school students. Allows grant funds to be used for the purchase of equipment, digital <br /> materials, and teacher professional development services. Establishes the following benchmarks <br /> for the program: <br /> • August 15, 2017—State Superintendent issues criteria for grant applications <br /> • October 15, 2017—Deadline for first year application (May 15 in following years) <br /> • November 15, 2017 - State Superintendent selects initial grant recipients (July 15 in <br /> following years) <br /> • August 1, 2018 —Grant recipients report to DPI on how they expended funds (August 1 <br /> in following years) <br /> • September 15, 2018 —DPI reports to the Joint Legislative Education Oversight <br /> Committee and the Fiscal Research Division on the grant recipients and the <br /> implementation of the program (September 15 in following years). <br /> Section 7.23A Expand School Connectivity Initiative/Cybersecurity and Risk Management <br /> Expands the School Connectivity Initiative to include cybersecurity and risk management <br /> services supporting LEAs and charter schools. Funds this effort in the 2017-19 fiscal biennium <br /> by taking $200,000 each year from the $6.4 million recurring appropriation for the Digital <br /> Learning Plan. <br /> 16 <br />
