student /teacher ratio for K -3 classes, (b) not trigger the over - capacity mechanisms of <br />SAPFO, and (c) accelerate the County's debt schedule for CHCCS elementary school <br />410 such that the debt is not incurred until 2008. <br />• Mr. Copeland will initiate a supper meeting for the OCS, BOCC and City of Mebane <br />board chairs and vice chairs, and the planning directors from the City and County. <br />• The group continues discussing school construction standards. The Superintendents <br />and County Manager will "get the issues to a decision point" for the elected officials, <br />• County and CHCCS staff will review the presentation on asset management <br />technology given to the OCS Board last month, and consider, whether that <br />presentation should be part of the joint meeting in February 2006. <br />• It was suggested that outside of the framework of these meetings, OCS, CHCCS, and <br />the County collaborate on a joint communication to the NC General Assembly <br />regarding the timing of the state's budget process. <br />9/1/05 <br />• Randy Copeland and Al Hartkopfjoin the group. <br />• Group reviews status of collaborative initiatives: <br />• Middle College is up and running. OCS has eight students participating and <br />CHCCS has eight or nine. <br />• No new cross - district enrollments were made this school year. Full -day <br />requirement and transportation are noted as limited factors. Nevertheless, <br />about ten CHCCS students cross - enroll per year with OCS. <br />• Dr. Pedersen reports that about 4,500 high school teachers and principals from <br />the four counties participating in the High Five Consortium had attended an <br />inspiring orientation program at the RBC Center. <br />• Drs. Carraway and Pedersen report that about 45 CHCCS staff participated in <br />an OCS sponsored staff development program featuring Horatio Sanchez, an <br />expert on student behavioral and emotional issues. <br />• Drs. Carraway and Pedersen report that the two school districts will be co- <br />sponsoring a fair at which colleges from across the US will send <br />representatives to meet with OCS and CHCCS students and their parents at <br />the Smith Center. <br />• Every school in both districts now has one school nurse, as a result of <br />collaboration across the County and the two school districts. <br />• Group continues discussions of shared construction management, school construction <br />standards, and SAPFO. <br />• Group agrees to agenda for September 26 .Joint Meeting. <br />• Group discusses relief efforts for Gulf coast communities devastated by Hurricane <br />Katrina. <br />6/16/05 <br />• Group continues discussion of shared construction management. <br />• Group sets two priorities for remainder of 2005: capacity planning for Elementary <br />#10 in the context of state's lower class size policy and SAPFO, and construction <br />management issues <br />
