Postal Rate Increase for Central Office $ 2,000 <br />The recent $.02 per stamp postal rate increase requires an increase to the postage budget <br />for central offices, All central office mail is metered through a centralized postage machine. <br />Increased cost for laser Printer Cartridges for Budget and Finance $ 2,500 <br />The district converted to laser checks during the 2002 -0.3 school year and updated the <br />machines and software in 2004 -05 to improve compatibility with our financial management <br />software. Laser check stock and cartridges for the printers have placed a burden on the supply <br />budget <br />Maintaining Positions or Programs Funded by Grants that are Expiring $ 52,583 <br />Half of the Home Computer Loaner Program manager's salary ($18,000) has been <br />funded by a federal grant which expires this school year The other half is funded by local <br />funds The district plans to continue this program and will need to pick up the full cost of the <br />salary. <br />The 21" Century Grant which currently funds the after school program at Carrboro <br />Elementary and Hargraves Center will expire at the end of this school year, The $20,800 <br />requested will allow the program to continue at Canboro. The Carrboro after school provides <br />instructional support and care to about 100 students. Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation and St. <br />Paul AME Church are collaborating to continue the program at the Hargraves Center. <br />The volunteer specialist position in the Volunteer Office was created six years ago from <br />21" Century Grant funds. As these grant funds have diminished local funds have been <br />provided to maintain the position. Grant funds will not be available to continue this position <br />after this school year. The requested $13,783, together with the local funds that already support <br />this position, will fully fund it <br />Preparing for the OpeninE of Carrboro High School <br />Principal Salary $ 79,236 <br />The opening of the new high school will require the hiring of a principal by .July 2006 <br />along with a secretary to support the position. The principal will be involved in finalizing the <br />interior design of the high school, curriculum planning, hiring a faculty and other key support <br />persons, and getting all employees trained for an August 2007 opening. The state will cover <br />four months of the principal's salary in the year before opening. The local fund will need to <br />cover the other eight months, <br />Assistant Principal Salary $ 45,254 <br />One assistant principal will be needed six months in advance of the new school year to <br />assist the principal with the myriad of tasks. The state does not provide funding prior to the <br />year of opening for an assistant principal. <br />Media Specialist Salary $ 30,678 <br />The media specialist position is needed for six months to plan the media center and to <br />select and order all of the media materials <br />
