• It was suggested that the School Districts brief the County on community use of <br />school facilities, addressing, for example, who is using the schools (i.e., after <br />school programs, pre - school programs, community recreation/athletic programs), <br />the numbers of people in such programs, and why the Districts must set limits on <br />community use. <br />• Mr. Halkiotis asked the Schools to provide information on any innovative steps <br />they have taken to make their facilities sustainable. <br />Ms. Stuckey expressed interest in having the group learn more about South <br />Carolina's school -based mental health programs. .. <br />• Group members expressed interest in receiving copies of the News and <br />Observer's coverage two Sundays ago of Wake County's school facility issues. <br />In addition, group members said they would like to hear presentations and have the <br />opportunity to have their questions answered by certain outside resource persons, as <br />follows: <br />• Representatives from the recreation advisory boards in Chapel Hill, Carrboro, <br />Hillsborough and the County. <br />• John Locke Foundation <br />• Wake County school facility officials. Topics of interest include the kinds of <br />spaces and equipment that are included in Wake school facilities, as compared to <br />CHCCS and OCS. <br />• Cindy Shea, UNC's sustainability coordinator <br />• State officials from DOT and Education who can distinguish their agencies' <br />school construction guidelines and recommendations from the requirements, <br />The group agreed on the following schedule for gathering information and developing <br />recommendations on school construction standards for their respective Boards' <br />consideration: <br />• Between now and the next (April 25 2006) joint meeting of the three Boards — <br />Clarify what is needed and share information "off line," hear /discuss <br />presentations from selected resource persons, generate a synthesis of what has <br />been learned by the Collaboration Group. <br />• Between 4/25 and the September 26 joint meeting - Work with planning staff to <br />generate a useful product relating to school construction standards, <br />• Between 9/26/06 and January 2007 — Prepare for appointments and charging a <br />bond study group. <br />• Between 1/2007 and April 2007 — Report due from capital facilities bond study <br />group. <br />6 <br />
