While Compass <br /> Center worked to eliminate some significant expenses this year, including consolidating <br /> offices to eliminate rent and utility expenses, we also invested in staffing to increase our <br /> ability to fundraise long-term, and to better meet client needs in our self-sufficiency and <br /> community outreach program areas (particularly to Spanish speakers) by becoming a <br /> Johnson Service Corps internship site. <br /> The Board of Directors is funding deficits mainly through transfers from an endowment <br /> fund within an approved spending plan, and secondarily through unrestricted net assets <br /> accumulated over the last 30 plus years. <br /> iv.
