Phillips also offered an opportunity for <br /> students to join an after-school Jazz Band. Band students were also able to join smaller <br /> ensembles within the classroom, and those ensembles performed in the final band <br /> concert of the year. It is the goal of the band director to provide instil, ents for all <br /> students with the desire to learn that might not be able to afford an <br /> instrument. Students receive 47 minutes of instruction daily and as with orchestra, the <br /> retention rate fro grade to grade is very high. <br /> *Some examples of art-related FIT (Falcons In Training) sessions: <br /> Music Composition 101 Have you ever wanted to write your own music but did not <br /> know hew? Together, we will explore the building blocks of music composition: melody, <br /> rhythm and harmony. As a culminating project, we will write a song for chorus, band or <br /> orchestra, <br /> in Tune with Music In Tune with Music has students read articles from In Tune <br /> magazine giving young musicians essential insights into a wide variety of musical <br /> genres, instruments and technology. It explores the music they are passionate about <br /> and explains in the simplest terms how it is made, learned, performed, recorded, and <br /> distributed. <br /> Crystal Clear Shlkespe.re Students will read Shakespeare's Twelfth Night in the <br /> original Elizabetha English and analyze the plot and characters, as well as the Bard's <br /> poetry. Students will read the play aloud with each reader assigned a part from the play. <br /> The film version of the play will accompany our reading and we'll cap the project with a <br /> field trip to Playmaker's Theater on the campus of UNC to see a live production of this <br /> uproarious cornedy. <br /> Let the Lyrics Lead Us! Poetry is the language of the soul and the pulse of the <br /> movement. Learn how to project your present inner voice through an analysis of how <br /> historical lyrics have reflected and impacted our society. <br /> Proposed Uses of Grant Funds <br /> The Phillips PTSA Cultural Enrichment Committee plans to use the grant to pay a <br /> portion of the artists' fees for three performances during the 2017-2018 calendar year. <br /> These performances include: <br /> til <br /> September 25-29, 2017 (specific date TBD): Soul Street Dance Company (6' , 7 and <br /> 8th graders): $900. Attendance population approximately 651 students. <br />
