To provide some necessary <br /> nutrition for them, they're offered a healthy snack of juice, fresh fruit, and whole grain <br /> crackers or nuts. <br /> 2. Offer a brief summary of the proposed project. <br /> zrief project summary (note: we have included Mr. Ortega's full summary as a separate <br /> narrative below : <br /> This grant proposal is for an ongoing painting and drawing workshop to be held at Fairview <br /> Park and Orange County Historical IMus:um in Hillsborough, Based on two years' <br /> experience with the Arts& Crafts program, we anticipate that partici „In%will be primarily <br /> from the traditionally undersenred Fairview community, with a majority of lem being Latina. <br /> We are hoping to draw in students from other communities, and, in particular, strengthen <br /> participation by African American community members through directed publicity and <br /> marketing outreach. <br /> This program will replace the Arts& Crafts program. The curriculum, as designed and <br /> described by Renzo Ortega (see artist's narrative below), an Orange County artist, will <br /> provide instruction in basic painting and drawing techniques. Instruction will be offered in <br /> English, with bilingual assistance available for Spanish speakers. Mr. Ortega will use folk <br /> and pa,* lar arts, historic imagery and artifacts to inspire students to paint eir stories, <br /> creating contemporary narratives. <br /> The Executive Director will act as project mana , assisting Mr. Ortega in planning a <br /> curriculum that will use art to simultaneously engage participants with Orange County history <br /> and motivate them to attend consistently, dedicating the time required to make better quality <br /> art through regular practice. <br /> Classes will be tailored during the year to incorporate themes from celebrations and <br /> important historical dates (41'n of July, Dia de los lvluertos, December holidays, for example) <br /> into the artwork. <br /> 3.
