History, identity and cultural
context of art and its production has been consistently relevant to studio practice and my
understanding and growth as an artist. For this reason I consider the practice and intellectual training
that art students have to be fundamental to the formation of their life. Artistic knowledge needs to be
passed from generation to generation, this transmission of information can preserve and nurture
cultural expressions.
My main goal as an Art Educator is to make art accessible to all, beyond the studio practice and
the gallery's walls or exhibition spaces. I believe that art is important to build a stronger social
conscience and cultural identity in us. The creation of community spaces and outlets for art and the
contribution they can make to the development of our people is beneficial for our communities. I have
worked in all of New York's boroughs with diverse populations, offering art classes in both English and
Spanish. I have worked with students of all ages, from my work with elementary school students in
Jackson Heights, middle schools in Sunset Park, high schools students in the Bronx as well as adult
students in the Queens Museum and Hunter College. In addition, I am a founder member of Local
Project, a nonprofit art organization based in Long Island City, New York. At Local Project I have been
organizing concerts, exhibitions, art workshops and community oriented art programs. In my
experience teaching art, I focus on developing classes and curricula where the student's goal is to
understand and apply art techniques with a critical view of the subject that they are developing. By
building their skills and repertoire of techniques and approaches, students will have the tools to
capture their thoughts in the artwork.
