Students will continue to develop <br /> their written fables unless teachers decide to take care of this outside of residency classroom time. If <br /> that is the case, students will learn how to create a Chinese character that relates to the theme of their <br /> story. (e.g. honesty, friendship, love, wisdom, forgiveness, etc.) After practice drawing the character, <br /> students will create the character on a sheet of special foil-embellished Chinese paper. <br /> Teaching artist will mount all artwork (either in class, but more likely, at home) on background paper <br /> and mark it all with a Year of the Rooster Stamp! : ) <br /> *Erhu music will play softly in the background while students are working. <br /> Day Five: Students will gather together (with family members present, if desired) to read aloud their <br /> fables, present their paintings, and celebrate the creative work of the class. After the celebration, <br /> students will walk around the room in a gallery walk looking at the paintings of their fellow students. <br /> Materials: <br /> Sketch (copy paper) <br /> 80 lb, drawing paper <br /> Pencils/erasers <br /> Watercolor paints <br /> Chinese Stamps <br /> Stamp pads (red and black ink) <br /> Red construction paper <br /> Teacher Involvement Program Evaluation <br /> Teacher(s) role: Evaluation Tool(s): <br /> Communicate (with the teaching artist) the first <br /> grade team's curricular themes and learning Teacher observation (ongoing) <br /> objectives. Assist students in preparation for Beginning and end-of-class reviews <br /> our writing activity.
