In 2016 <br /> she also began managing The Arts Center's Artist in Residence program. <br /> • Amy Kennan Amago has over 15 years of experience as a visual artist and has <br /> designed, written, and taught rich, original art curricula, in a variety of educational <br /> settings in accordance with state and national art learning standards, She has extensive <br /> experience using Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) with students, creating and teaching <br /> STEAM-focused lessons and creating a number of interdisciplinary art units utilizing and <br /> collaborating with community resources and institutions. <br /> • Anita Wood ley is an African-American literary and theatre teaching artist, as well as an <br /> Emmy award-winning journalist, producer, columnist, actress, poet, mixed-media folk <br /> artist, baker, and playwright. <br /> • Kim Arrington is an African-American teaching and performing artist who uses poetry, <br /> drama, and music to reach audiences of all ages. She has worked with The Arts Center's <br /> Artist in Residence program since it began in 2008, and also works as a singer and <br /> songwriter. In 2012, she was the recipient of North Carolina Central University's 40 <br /> Under 40 Award for excellence in the arts and is the co-founder of The Relative Pitch, a <br /> free, quarterly performance workshop for youth ages 18 and under. <br /> • Erin Dangler is the owner of Broadway Bound, which is a company that teaches the art <br /> of musical theatre (choreography, music and acting) to children from elementary to high <br /> school. In addition, she is the Performing Arts Coordinator for Duke Arts in Health and a <br /> choreographer for mainstage productions for Playmakers Repertory Company in Chapel <br /> Hill. She has worked with The Arts Center's Artist in Residence program since 2009. <br /> • Jason Abide is a potter and ceramic artist who has taught classes to children and adults <br /> at The Arts Center since 2007. He has taught numerous residencies creating video and <br /> ceramic art on site with students, as well as summer camps teaching ceramics, writing <br /> and producing short films and documentary filmmaking. He is an exhibiting artist doing <br /> both solo shows and group exhibitions, including Works in Clay, Students and Teacher <br /> (2016) Carrboro Arts Center Worlds to Discover, and Worlds to Explore (2015) North <br /> Carolina Crafts Gallery All Manner of Life (2014) Nicholson Gallery. <br /> • Charles Pettee is a professional guitar and mandolin player, singer, songwriter and <br /> teaching artist. He has designed assembly programs and week-long curricula for artist <br /> residencies that incorporate NC Essential Standards, as well as Common Core <br /> standards, to teach the history of Bluegrass music to a wide range of age groups and <br /> has been a part of The Arts Center's Artist in Residence program for several years. He is <br /> co-founder of Flying Fish recording artist The Shady Grove Band from Chapel Hill. He <br /> has performed over 5,000 shows in his 32 years as a professional musician. <br /> One third of the core artists mentioned above, Anita Wood ley and Kim Arrington, are African- <br /> American. All artists receive a payment rate of $75/hour, which includes hours spent in <br /> classrooms, as well as one hour each for planning and evaluation sessions. <br /> The Arts Center's School Show Series is also an integral part of the Artist in Residence program <br /> since the residencies all align with performances. Artists in the series include African-American <br />
