2 <br /> TOTALS FY16-17(two cycles) FY17-18(one cycle) <br /> Total grants awarded 48, or 76%of requests 33, or 60%of requests <br /> Total applications received 63 55 <br /> Total unique applicants 52 48 <br /> Total first-time applicants 13, or 25%of applicants 18, or 38%of applicants <br /> Total first-time applicants awarded 7, or 13%of applicants 8, or 17%of applicants <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: A total of $63,713 was awarded to fourteen nonprofit organizations, ten <br /> schools and seven artists during the 2017-18 grants cycle. North Carolina Arts Council <br /> Grassroots Arts Program funds equaled $33,913, and the remaining funds of$29,800 were from <br /> Orange County. <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goal is applicable to <br /> this agenda item: <br /> • GOAL: FOSTER A COMMUNITY CULTURE THAT REJECTS OPPRESSION AND <br /> INEQUITY <br /> The fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race or color; <br /> religious or philosophical beliefs; sex; gender or sexual orientation; national origin or <br /> ethnic background; age; military service; disability; and familial, residential or economic <br /> status. The impact for traditionally under-served populations and geographic location is a <br /> part of the grant evaluation criteria across all of the Commission' s grant categories. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board acknowledge the local <br /> recipients of these awards during the September 19, 2017 meeting with the presentation of <br /> checks by the Board Chair. <br />
