Volunteers <br />DEPARTMENT: Emergency Management PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Roster of Award Winners Jack Ball, 919-968-2050 <br />PURPOSE: To recognize the efforts of the volunteers of the Orange County Rescue Squad, <br />Inc, who have received the Lifetime Presidential Volunteer Service Award. <br />BACKGROUND: The Orange County Rescue Squad, Incorporated is a valued emergency <br />services provider within Orange County whose membership has received state certification as a <br />Heavy Rescue Technician provider. The department has completed the necessary training and <br />acquired the necessary equipment to become aState-certified Heavy Technical Rescue <br />Provider with North Carolina Association of EMS and Rescue, Twenty individual members <br />have also received special recognition for their efforts in total volunteer hours, having achieved <br />more than 4,000 hours of volunteer service each to the citizens of Orange County. <br />The completion of the Heavy Rescue Technician Provider training program shows that the <br />recipient of the certification has demonstrated proficiency and can perform the following tasks to <br />help preserve the lives of those encountered in these situations: heavy extrications involving <br />tractor-trailers or heavy vehicles; conducting one or more advanced rescues simultaneously; <br />and extrications involving 2 or more hydraulic Hurst tools, This certification also requires an <br />investment of a minimum of 8 certified Rescue Technicians by the organization to receive this <br />certification, <br />Individuals listed on the attached raster from Orange County Rescue Squad, Incorporated have <br />received the Lifetime Presidential Volunteer Service Award, This recognizes and honors <br />volunteers, encourages a sustained commitment to civic participation, and inspires others to <br />make volunteering a central part of their lives. The Lifetime President's Volunteer Service <br />Award is a Presidential recognition program for Americans of all ages, who contribute a <br />significant amount of time to volunteer service. The program recognizes individuals, families, <br />and groups that have achieved a certain standard -measured by the number of hours served <br />over a 12-month period and during their lives as volunteers, <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with this recognition of volunteer <br />service, <br />
