DocuSign Envelope ID:70E97245-CBDE-4A68-90A8-9FB875F7C092
May 27, 2017
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing in support of Dawn Hummer's proposal to the Artists' Project Grant Program. I have
known Dawn only a short time through the Triangle Weavers Guild but I have been very impressed by
both her weaving skills and her interest in sharing her knowledge with the greater community.
I had met with Kim Lamon-Loperfido about the Guild conducting a class at the Seymour Center. I knew
that Dawn would be the best person to carry this through. Her interest in Saori weaving (a fairly
freeform type of weaving that can accommodate physical and developmental differences)would be
perfect for this class. And so it was.
We also had Dawn present a program about Saori weaving at our monthly meeting. It was a fascinating
presentation and particularly appealed to those looking for a less physically demanding yet creatively
satisfying method of weaving. Iwas impressed by the number of looms and displays that Dawn brought
—but it all added to the success of her presentation. She never hesitated to share her equipment
despite the labor of getting it to the Seymour Center.
Dawn's request for funding for smaller, more easily transportable looms would be a benefit for years to
come. The same effort it takes to transport larger looms can easily be used to carry additional, smaller
looms. In turn, more people would be able to take advantage of Dawn's excellent teaching ability.
On a personal note, my 91 year old friend is quite interested in my weaving, a craft she learned 75 years
ago. Our discussions of what I'm doing, and my periodic show and tell, have provided many hours of fun
conversation and a special bonding experience.
I fully support Dawn's efforts to bring this joy and satisfaction to many more at the Seymour Center. If
you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Peggy Sanford, President
Triangle Weavers Guild
sanfordm@earthlink.net
