DocuSign Envelope ID:70E97245-CBDE-4A68-90A8-9FB875F7C092
June 1, 2017
Dear Committee,
I am writing to show my support for Dawn Hummer and her proposed project. I believe that Dawn's
project will Bneat|y benefit the Orange County community. I am a social worker with Orange County
Department on Aging and host our memory cafes. Our goal is to provide enriching opportunities for
community members living with dementia and their loved ones. Dawn hosted a Saori Weaving
workshop for our participants in March and it was our best attended café to date.
Dawn was absolutely amazing in her ability to connect with all participants (those living with dementia
and family members). Dawn is a patient and engaging instructor and our participants were enthusiastic
to experience weaving at the looms. Dawn's guidance and facilitation encouraged participation, even
from some of our more hesitant attendees. By the end of the workshop folks did not want to leave. They
were gushing about how marvelous their experience was and how much fun they had. We received
feedback from participants and long-time volunteers that this workshop was a hit. Family members
shared how much it meant to do something so accessible for both themselves and their loved one. They
also shared how much they appreciated Dawn's instruction and that she set a tone that allowed all
participants to be comfortable.
I hope the committee considers full funding of Dawn's proposal. I know there is much interest in Dawn's
return to the memory café. I am also aware of how popular Dawn's weaving program has been at the
senior center and that many folks will benefit from the opportunity to learn from such a patient and
dynamic instructor.
With utmost support,
-«o y _7 °f,J
^",^ LJB-^0p //mw
Kim Lamon-Loperfido, MSW, 15W, MPH
AFA Certified Dementia Care Partner
Social Worker II—OC CARES
Orange County Department on Aging
2551 Homestead Road | Chapel Hill, NC 27516
Phone: 919.245.4253| Fax: 919.968.2017
