Please give a brief description of your organization, including mission, board and staff
composition, current arts programs and services and number and kinds of people served. Public
schools and other large governmental or community agencies should provide a description of their
arts program only rather than the entire organization. (250 words or less)
The Hillsborough Arts Council (HAC) supports the arts and enhances the Hillsborough and Orange
County communities through education and by organizing events that feature regional artists for the
enjoyment and education of the general public. Our mission is "to enrich our community through the
arts." We would like to continue bringing educational opportunities to the public through existing
venues and programs.
The HAC operating structure consists of 13 Board of Directors. The Board members are all
volunteers and oversee the management and operation of more than 10 annual programs including:
o Last Fridays free concert series.
o Last Fridays Art Walks.
o Hillsborough Handmade Parade.
o Parlor Concerts
o The Hillsborough Downtown Arts & Crafts Show.
o The Hillsborough Arts Council Gallery and Gift Shop.
o Hillsborough Sculpture Tour, "A Sight to Behold" by Patrick Dougherty.
o Solstice Lantern Walk.
o Arts Alive.
o ArtCycle
o Free Spirit Freedom
HAC also retains the services of 2 part-time paid employees that perform day-to-day operations.
These employees are an accountant (Sara Brewer) and a program coordinator (Kristin Prelipp).
2. Offer a brief summary of the proposed project.
The proposed use of the grant funds requested is to help fund the promotion of the Hillsborough Art
Walk, Last Fridays. These are a premier recurring events for Hillsborough and Orange County. We
have had visitors tell us that they go to many art walks throughout the triangle and find that this is
their favorite because unlike other towns, this art walk is truly walk-able, between the art venues and
the restaurants. It is an event which draws visitors from Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Pittsboro, Cary,
Raleigh, and Burlington, Mebane, Durham and other surrounding communities.
L'r,)ok p Int fâ– prA, Pcir
