The orchestra's 175 <br /> annual concerts, events and broadcasts reached over 250,000 adults and schoolchildren in more than 90 <br /> counties throughout the state—in communities large and small, and in concert halls, auditoriums, <br /> gyinrinasiurns, restaurants, clubs, and outdoor settings. The Symphony's 66 full-time musicians perform <br /> under the artistic leadership of Music Director Grant Llewellyn and travel approximately 18,000 miles <br /> each season across the state, <br /> The North Carolina Symphony has a long-standing and deep commitment to providing superior music <br /> education to North Carolina school children in order to foster the next generation of musicians and <br /> music supporters while simultaneously enhancing the rich culture in this state. Since its first education <br /> concert in 1946, the Symphony has performed to more than three million students across the state, as a <br /> valued addition to public and private school curricula. <br /> 2. Brief Project Summary <br /> The North Carolina Symphony will perform approximately seven (7)full-orchestra, curriculum-based' <br /> musk education concerts for over 1„500 students in grades 3 through 5 from all Orange County and <br /> Chapel Hill Carrboro City elementary public schools during the 2017-18 school year(Dates TBD), These <br /> concerts will take place in Meynnandi Concert Hall in downtown Raleigh and will reach students of all <br /> economic levels and demographics.These performances are fundamental to the orchestra's <br /> commitment to statewide service and music education of North Carolina's school children, and are <br /> provided at no cost to the students.The Orange County and Chapel Hill-Carrboro School Systems will <br /> arrange and coordinate transportation to and from the venue. <br /> 3. Goals <br /> The North Carolina Symphony's education concerts aim to achieve the fnllowing goals: <br /> 1. introduce children to orchestral music <br /> 2. Increase arts access for communities throughout North Carolina <br /> 3. Supplement the arts education curriculum in North Carolina Schools <br /> 4, Inspire young people through music <br /> 5. Support the work of North Carolina music educators <br /> 4. Intended Audience <br /> The demographics of the approximately 1,500 elementary students to be served are: 52%Caucasian, <br /> 13%African-American, 19% Hispanic, and 11%Asian; 48% female and 52%male, An average of <br /> approximately 36%of the students served are eligible for free or reduced lunch. * <br />
