DocuSign Envelope ID:66E45008-FB1D-4049-B8DE-1C00A1D64C3E
To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Dan Hirsch. I am a longtime arts and music curator with experience at major
museums and universities. I am writing to wholeheartedly endorse Level Retreat's burgeoning
artist retreat program, and their plan to bring Nicholas Chatfield-Taylor to Orange County as
their premiere artist-in-residence.
The Orange County Arts Commission grant will greatly assist Level Retreat in fulfilling their
mission of becoming a destination for artists to live and work in North Carolina. Their planned
facilities will greatly enhance the reputation of Chapel Hill as a haven for creative endeavors,
bringing much needed workspaces as well as attracting outsiders to our area.
Their immediate goal of assisting Nicholas Chatfield-Taylor in building a musical installation and
sculpture would be a much welcomed event. Mr. Chatfield-Taylor's art brims with a devotion to
communal celebrations, creating with his DIY igloos unique opportunities for art and sound
lovers to gather and participate in a sublime, shared experience.
As manager of School Kids Records, a music store on Franklin St. in Chapel Hill, I plan to assist
Level Retreat in bringing their vision to fruition. This will include acting as liaison in considering
the public space outside of School Kids as a potential location for their event, as well as
assisting with local marketing and promotion.
I fully support Level Retreat and Nicholas Chatfield-Taylor as recipients of the artist project
grant.
Thank you,
Dan Hirsch
(617)435 2566
