9 <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Price for the <br /> Board to certify the ten (10) farm properties noted above totaling 470 acres (VAD) and 91 acres <br /> (EVAD) (rounded acreage) as denoted in the attached documentation as qualifying farmland; <br /> designate the farms as noted above as Voluntary or Enhanced Voluntary Agricultural District <br /> farm within the Caldwell, Cane Creek/Buckhorn, Schley/Eno, Cedar Grove, and White Cross <br /> Voluntary Agricultural Districts; and enroll the lands in the Orange County Voluntary Agricultural <br /> District (VAD) and the Enhanced Voluntary Agricultural District (EVAD) programs. <br /> (Note: Two parcels are updating new ownership and therefore approximately 86 acres will not <br /> be an increase in the overall acres of the program.) <br /> With approval of these additional acres, the Orange County Voluntary Agricultural District <br /> Program will have enrolled 86 farms totaling 9,701 acres in the VAD and 2,234 acres in the <br /> EVAD for a total of 11,935 acres (rounded) in the program. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> c. Addition to the Agenda: <br /> The Board will consider adopting a "Resolution of Commitment to Adopt, Honor <br /> and Uphold the Paris Climate Agreement. <br /> Commissioner Rich said she decided to propose this resolution after having <br /> conversations with all three of the Town's Mayors. <br /> Commissioner Rich read the resolution: <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> RESOLUTION OF COMMITMENT TO ADOPT, HONOR AND UPHOLD THE PARIS CLIMATE <br /> AGREEMENT <br /> Resolution of Commitment to Adopt/Honor and Uphold the Paris Climate Agreement– and she <br /> said this came about after her discussions with the three Town's mayors. <br /> RESOLUTION # 2017-042 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> RESOLUTION OF COMMITMENT TO ADOPT, HONOR AND UPHOLD THE PARIS CLIMATE <br /> AGREEMENT <br /> WHEREAS, the scientific community has reached an overwhelming consensus that the earth's <br /> climate is warming and human activity—specifically, burning fossil fuels that emit carbon dioxide <br /> and other greenhouse gases—is the primary cause of warming; and <br /> WHEREAS, large coastal states such as North Carolina are disproportionately vulnerable to the <br /> effects of climate change, including extreme heat, severe storms, and sea level rise; and <br /> WHEREAS, reducing carbon emissions will help protect Orange County, North Carolina, <br /> residents and future generations—particularly those who are most economically and physically <br /> vulnerable—and mitigate the consequences of extreme weather that hurt the economy; and <br /> WHEREAS, reducing carbon emissions and preparing for climate change will reduce illnesses <br /> caused by air pollution, high heat, and extreme weather; and <br />
