1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: September 5, 2017 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 8-g <br /> SUBJECT: Appointments to the Orange County Justice Advisory Council <br /> DEPARTMENT: Criminal Justice Resource <br /> Department <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Orange County Justice Advisory Council Caitlin Fenhagen, (919) 245-2303 <br /> Structure and Appointees <br /> PURPOSE: To make appointments to the Justice Advisory Council. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Orange County Board of Commissioners created the Justice Advisory <br /> Council (JAC) at its regular meeting on May 17, 2016. The Council coordinates, informs and <br /> enhances work in the criminal justice system and in the Orange County Criminal Justice <br /> Resource (CJR) Department. Its formation is aligned with the best practices for the <br /> administration of an effective, innovative and equitable criminal justice system. <br /> Several past appointees have left their positions on the JAC and their suggested replacements <br /> by Criminal Justice Resource staff are listed below. CJR Staff have spoken to the proposed <br /> replacements and all are willing to serve on the Council. <br /> Position 4: Public Defender Susan Seahorn <br /> Position 15: Faith Community Representative: Bishop Victor Glover (Minister and CEO of <br /> Fathers on the Move. Recommended by CHPD Chief Chris Blue) <br /> Position 16: Probation and Parole Chief Mike Rakouskas <br /> Position 18: Reentry Advocate Representative: Maggie West (Co-Director of Community <br /> Empowerment Fund) <br /> There are two new positions that CJR Staff proposes that the Board create on the JAC and <br /> these are outlined below: <br /> Position 26: Partnership to End Homelessness Representative: Corey Root (Homeless <br /> Programs Coordinator) <br /> Position 27: UNC Hospitals Representative: Barbara-Ann Bybel (Director, Psychiatry Services) <br />
