2 <br /> 1 WHEREAS, a living wage can lift workers out of poverty and towards the middle class; <br /> 2 and <br /> 3 <br /> 4 WHEREAS,more workers with higher incomes can afford to live in Orange County and <br /> 5 spend money locally; and <br /> 6 <br /> 7 WHEREAS, employers who pay their workers a living wage report substantially less <br /> 8 turnover, better job performance, and higher levels of positive customer engagement; and <br /> 9 <br /> 10 WHEREAS, Orange County Living Wage has certified 126 employers who voluntarily <br /> 11 pay a living wage and promotes those employers to the community to build a base of <br /> 12 engaged, informed consumers who support living-wage-certified businesses and <br /> 13 nonprofits; and <br /> 14 <br /> 15 WHEREAS, Orange County Living Wage plans a month-long campaign in September <br /> 16 2017 to encourage people to do business with living wage certified employers; and <br /> 17 <br /> 18 WHEREAS, Labor Day is a national holiday in recognition of the contributions of <br /> 19 workers to our economy; and <br /> 20 <br /> 21 WHEREAS, Orange County, in honor of Labor Day, maintains its support of living wage <br /> 22 efforts and businesses that provide a living wage to all their employees; <br /> 23 <br /> 24 NOW, THEREFORE, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, a living-wage- <br /> 25 certified employer, does hereby proclaim Labor Day 2017 as Living Wage Day in Orange <br /> 26 County and encourage consumers to support businesses paying their workers a living <br /> 27 wage. <br /> 28 This the 23rd day of August 2017. <br /> 29 <br /> 30 <br /> 31 Mark Dorosin, Chair <br /> 32 Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> 33 <br /> 34 A motion was made by Commissioner Marcoplos, seconded by Commissioner Rich for the <br /> 35 Board to approve the proclamation Recognizing Labor Day 2017 as Living Wage Day in <br /> 36 Orange County and authorized the Chair to sign the proclamation. <br /> 37 <br /> 38 VOTE: UNANIMOUS (Dorosin, Jacobs, Marcoplos, Rich) <br /> 39 <br /> 40 <br /> 41 This portion of the meeting was adjourned at 8:33 a.m. <br /> 42 <br /> 43 Mark Dorosin, Chair <br /> 44 <br /> 45 David Hunt <br /> 46 Deputy Clerk to the Board <br /> 47 <br />
