Tryon St. in Hillsborough, <br /> 12 N.C. <br /> 13 <br /> 14 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Dorosin and Commissioners Barry <br /> 15 Jacobs, Mark Marcoplos and Penny Rich <br /> 16 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners Burroughs, McKee and <br /> 17 Price. <br /> 18 COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: <br /> 19 COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: Deputy County Manager Travis Myren and Deputy <br /> 20 Clerk to the Board David Hunt <br /> 21 <br /> 22 <br /> 23 <br /> 24 Chair Dorosin called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. <br /> 25 <br /> 26 Commissioner Marcoplos was recognized and read a proposed proclamation Recognizing <br /> 27 Labor Day 2017 as Living Wage Day in Orange County: <br /> 28 <br /> 29 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 30 <br /> 31 PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING LABOR DAY 2017 AS <br /> 32 LIVING WAGE DAY IN ORANGE COUNTY <br /> 33 <br /> 34 WHEREAS, chronic poverty is the biggest challenge to sustainable, diverse, and healthy <br /> 35 communities; and <br /> 36 <br /> 37 WHEREAS, the minimum wage has not increased in North Carolina beyond the <br /> 38 federally mandated minimum of$7.25 set in 2009, which has lost nearly 10% of its value <br /> 39 due to cost of living increases; and <br /> 40 <br /> 41 WHEREAS, the costs of housing, food, child care, and health care have increased <br /> 42 substantially in the eight years since the federal minimum was last raised; and <br /> 43 <br /> 44 WHEREAS,many workers in Orange County make less than living wages; and <br /> 45 <br />
