ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: April 10, 2006 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. ~p`e,,. <br />SUBJECT: Resolution To Recognize Orange Congregations in Mission for 25 Years of <br />Service to the Community <br />DEPARTMENT: BOCC PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />Yes -Resolution <br />3/21/06 Letter <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Donna Baker, 245-2130 <br />PURPOSE: To consider a resolution recognizing Orange Congregations in Mission (OCIM) for <br />25 years of service to the community, <br />BACKGROUND: In early 1981, three pastors gathered for a lectionary study of Biblical texts. <br />Out of these meetings arose discussions about the human needs of Orange County and how to <br />support those needs through the united efforts of local congregations. This was the beginning <br />of OCIM. Twenty-five years later, thousands of individuals and families, during times of <br />personal crisis, have received support from OCIM. In 2005 alone, Orange Congregations in <br />Mission assisted 4,432 individuals, of those, 1,787 were children. OCIM provides emergency <br />food, clothes, utility payments, and shelter to those in crisis, The Meals on Wheels program <br />served over 11,000 meals in 2005, With the support of over 45 diverse congregations, OCIM <br />celebrates 25 years of service to Orange County. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: NONE <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the attached <br />resolution recognizing 25 years of service by Orange Congregations in Mission, and authorize <br />the Chair to sign. <br />
