EXHIBIT A <br /> Summary: <br /> Local legislation authorizing county to fund bikeways and trails <br /> Orange County and the Cities of Carrboro and Chapel Hill have adopted <br /> comprehensive plans to provide trails and greenways through the County and the <br /> Cities. These plans were adopted in part as an alternative transportation system. <br /> The Cities of Carrboro and Chapel Hill may currently use North Carolina Statute <br /> §136-71.6, to provide bikeways in the Cities. The County is in need of the <br /> requested legislation to provide bikeways in the County which can be linked with <br /> bikeways, trails and greenways in the Cities. <br />
