ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> HEROES OF 2001 STAMP DAY <br /> WHEREAS, since 1775, the U.S. Postal Service has connected friends, families, <br /> neighbors and businesses by mail; and <br /> WHEREAS, local branches of the U. S. Postal Service are significant community <br /> resources and sources of local pride; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the issuance of the first United States commemorative postage stamp in <br /> honor of Benjamin Franklin in 1847, stamp collectors have treasured these <br /> depictions of great Americans, momentous events and historic places in <br /> our national history; and <br /> WHEREAS, more than 22 million Americans collect stamps, making stamp collecting <br /> one of the most popular hobbies in the nation; and <br /> WHEREAS, the fire, police and emergency personnel provide an invaluable service to <br /> our community; and <br /> WHEREAS, every day these brave police, fire and emergency personnel risk their lives <br /> in efforts that help save lives; and <br /> WHEREAS, the United States Postal Service has seen fit to issue a special <br /> commemorative "semipostal" U.S. postage stamps entitled "The Heroes of <br /> 2001" to honor those men and women who gave their lives in the rescue <br /> efforts following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, do we,the Orange County Board of Commissioners, hereby <br /> proclaim June 7, 2002, as <br /> HEROES OF 2001 STAMP DAY <br /> in Orange County and proclaim this observance to all residents of Orange <br /> County and encourage all to pay tribute to the spirit and resolve of our <br /> great country and to recognize the important roles our fire, police and <br /> emergency workers play in our everyday lives. <br /> This the 4h day of June, 2002. <br /> Barry Jacobs ai <br /> Orange Co t o f Co missioners <br />
